 Workers with the build contractors Ward & Burke take a well-deserved break having completed the works for Cork City Council on the upgraded Marina Promenade which has now reopened. Pic Larry Cummins. Cork City Council are delighted to announce that the popular riverside amenity, Marina Promenade is now open for public use on Thursday 19th December 2024. Construction began last year on the project, aiming to build on the successful pedestrianisation of the route, extending 1.8km from Centre Park Road to Blackrock Village. The project, funded by the National Transport Authority, encompasses a six-meter-wide pedestrian & cycle corridor with adjoining plazas, riverside balconies, new seating areas, environmentally sensitive public & feature lighting and many other features. It includes: • Provision of new pedestrian and cycle access points from the Marina Promenade to the adjacent Marina Park including Atlantic Pond and the Cork City to Passage West Greenway; • Protection and retention of the iconic formal tree planting along the route and restoration of the old stone walls; • Protection and enhancement of the natural heritage, green space and biodiversity of the area including the provision of swales and related planting; • Provision of a new access road serving the rowing clubs, Pairc Ui Chaoimh/Atlantic Pond. Contractors Ward & Burke will continue to work on the adjoining Marina Park Phase 2 project into 2025. The following areas within Marina Park will remain closed during the Christmas period: Holland Park; Elevated Tree Walkway Barrington’s Folly Atlantic Pond Park Access at Monahan Road An official opening of the Marina Promenade will take place in Spring 2025, date to be confirmed.

 Billy and Maureen Lehane celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with mass together with their family and friends at the Chuch of the Annunciation, Blackpool, Cork on Saturday. Billy, 95 and Maureen, 93 have four daughters Elizabeth, Mary, Ursula and Helen. The couple have ten grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren with their 29th great grandchild (overdue!!) due on 5th December 2024. Pic Larry Cummins
