Burrishoole bridge 'Burrishoole Sunset' I snapped this image of the old Burrishoole stone bridge from the Great Western Greenway just a few Km outside Newport, Co. Mayo. The sun was about to set and just low enough to cast lovely golden rays along the channel and light up the clouds. The seven-arched Burrishoole Bridge, crossing the Burrishoole channel, was built in the 18th century as part of the roadway between Newport and Mulranny. Then, in 1950, the road was re-routed along the former railway line to the north, located further downstream. The railway line, which ran from Westport to Achill, had been in operation from the 1880s until 1939. Keywords: 30mm prime, Bridge, Burrishoole, Co. 2 Glenlough Bay, Donegal...here from thousands of years ocean clashes with land and creating most beautiful coastline in the world. Place full of sea stacks, rugged cliffs and mountains falling into the ocean, thank God uninhabited. 1.5h cliff hike to get there isn't too bad but going back is tough as you have to climb this massive, steep cliff and with all camera gear and heavy tripod it's not easy. Anyway it can be done. Quite difficult place to photograph as it's not safe to get down to the beach with all the gear, especially if you there on your own.

SAM 4768 An Irish Rebel Re-enactment of the 1798 Battle of Castlebar as part of the 'Mayo Day' celebrations over the May bank holiday. The Battle of Castlebar occurred on 27 August 1798 near the town of Castlebar, County Mayo, during the Irish Rebellion of that year. A combined force of 2,000 French troops and Irish rebels routed a force of 6,000 British militia in what would later become known as the "Castlebar Races" or "Races of Castlebar". Following the victory, thousands of volunteers flocked to join the French who also sent a request to France for reinforcements and formally declared a Republic of Connacht.

2016-12-04 On a return visit to my native city of Limerick which is alway raining I had a chance of a love shot on my phone of the river Shannon looking up stream with the treaty stone on one side and king John's castle on the other side and the Thomand bridge linking them.

fullsizeoutput 6f5f Gotcha! This is the world's smallest bird. It's a bee hummingbird and I photographed it on a college photographic tour of Cuba. It visited the flowering shrub in the garden of our Airbnb house and it was always too shady in the morning and evening for me to capture it. This was on the final day, around lunchtime when the sun had begun to wash over the garden. It took me a fair while to get this shot. I had to change lens, change to a continuous focus and out of the loads and loads of photographs I only got two with the bird perfectly frozen. The other one is the hummingbird feeding with its wings covering its head - it looks like an angel! This is not a zoo or bird sanctuary shot, it was taken from a first floor terrace overlooking the bush. I can still feel my tension as I tried to following this tiny and exceptionally fast bird to get a shot. I hope you like it. I'm studying photography at Limerick College of Further Education and the Photographic Department organised a cultural photographic tour to Cuba in February, an amazing opportunity and one for which I'm so grateful.
