Lord Mayor Supports ‘Roll on the Lee’ CD
PRESS RELEASE 13th March 2017

On a courtesy visit to Cork City Hall yesterday Rosemary O’Neill, daughter of the late Tip O’Neill (Freeman of Cork City) was presented with a gift of ‘Roll on the Lee’ by Lord Mayor Councillor Des Cahill. In advance of his trip to Washington D.C. this week, the Lord Mayor has said that he is looking forward to representing the people of Cork at the White House and that Cork and the USA have such positive links.

Enable Ireland recently won the Cork Chamber Non Profit of the Year Award. It currently provides support services to over 670 children with physical disabilities at the Lavanagh Centre in Cork. Founded in 1954, the centre is no longer suitable for the needs of children with disabilities and the future children of Cork. They have purchased a 7 acre site in Curraheen and now need to raise €7.5 million to complete this state of the art centre.

Jimmy MacCarthy gifted 1,000 copies of his single ‘Roll on the Lee’ to Enable Ireland. The song relates to his time growing up in Cork city and county and is a perfect gift for any Corkonian, home or away. It is for sale in Golden Discs, Patrick Street, the two Enable Ireland charity shops, the Lavanagh Centre and via www.enableireland.ie for €5 with all proceeds going to develop the new children’s centre..

Notes for editor
About Enable Ireland
Founded in 1948, Enable Ireland provides services to over 5,200 children and adults with disabilities from 40 locations in 14 counties.
Our services for children and their families cover all aspects of a child's physical, educational, and social development from early infancy through adolescence.
We offer a range of services to adults with disabilities which include day care training, personal development, supported and independent living, and social and leisure activities.

Enable Ireland is part funded by the HSE and other statutory agencies. Every year we require over €2 million in additional funding to meet the costs of delivering our services. Without this additional income from our shops and fundraising we would not be able to meet the needs of the children and their families relying on our services.
We have a nationwide chain of 21 retail shops selling clothes, books and bric-a-brac, and raise funds through community fundraising, corporate and national fundraising.
The demand for our services continues to increase throughout Ireland. We have set ourselves the challenging goal of meeting these needs by providing a full range of high quality services, and expanding into local communities.
