Students Caoimhe Carroll and Billy Connolly of Coaching Science & Sports Pedagogy at the launch. The Official Launch of the MTU 5k Race 2025 took place on the Athletics Track at the Bishopstown Campus on Wednesday 5th February. The race itself, which is part of the Cork Business Houses Athletics Association (BHAA) series of races, will take place on Sunday 2nd March at 10am, starting on the MTU main campus and navigating its way around the scenic Curraheen River Walkway before finishing on the Athletics Track. It is expected that over 400 runners will participate, and they will be welcomed by an army of volunteers from MTU staff, families, students, and friends who will guide them safely throughout the journey! There will be a free MTU 5k Mug for the first 400 runners registered on the morning, and registration will open at 8:30am in the MTU Arena. The official launch was attended by MTU President Maggie Cusack, race sponsors, students, and other valuable stakeholders who all provide much-appreciated support in staging the annual MTU 5k Road Race. The race launch also included contributions from “Couch to 5k” participants who are supported by the “MTU Healthy Campus” initiative which is spearheading health promotion activities throughout the university. The “Couch to 5k” group has attracted over 40 eager members from across the Cork campuses who are currently working hard through their training plan which will culminate in their participation in the MTU 5k on Sunday 2nd March, and we wish them the best of luck with their endeavours!
