Jane Lyons, St Bernadette's Dublin Hill/Ballyvolane Brigini holding a Chilean Rose Tarantula at the Science and Discovery Day November 3rd 2012- The Old Cork City waterworks witnessed an invasion of Cygnets and Brigini as the Catholic Girl Guides of Ireland (CGI) gathered on Saturday 3rd November to participate in a specially organised day of science and discovery at The Lifetime Lab. Over 250 Cynets and Brigini from all over Munster and beyond got a 'hands on' experience encouraging the girls to build, design, discover and experiment to the best of their abilities.Throughout the day participants were encouraged to become junior environmental detectives, discover the science behind bubbles, enrol in the “Wacky School of Science”, investigate the “Top 10 experiments you are not allowed to do at home" or discover the fizz in sherbet at “The Fizzy Factor” and finally experience the world of some amazing creatures, including reptiles, small mammals and birds of prey. The event forms part of Brigín Day with similar activities taking place in Dublin and Belfast. The main aim for the day is for the girls to get a 'hands on' opportunity to use their imaginations and to encourage the girls to build, design, discover and experiment to the best of their abilities.
