"Scented Flow"
Flower in Stream
Johnstown Castle, Co. Wexford
March 2019
Picture: Gareth McNulty
This photo was taken on a day out at Johnstown Castle in County Wexford. March had seen a very wet, and windy spell throughout the month, and this was one of the first weekends where Spring really pushed through, with blue skies, and an all out warm relaxing day. My girlfriend and I, were strolling around the gardens of the castle when I spotted this flower with the leaf in a stream. It stood out, due to the contrast between the dark bed of the stream, the bright pink of the flower, and the green of the leaf, where I immediately knew it would make for a perfect, and stunning photo. Without hesitation I seen the picture in my mind, and proceeded to capture what you see. Lying down in the wet grass with one elbow in the stream itself, my camera centimeters above the water line, just to get the right angle for this photo. My hope that my hands stay true, and my camera dry was high, as this was the only option to capture the flower as perfectly as this, and my image you see is the result.
