Thousands of people live in illegally developed slums on the slopes of hills in Chittagong city, risking being victims of landslides during the monsoon. Authorities are yet to take any effective action to remove houses.

Every year before the rainy season the Hill Management Committee decides to relocate the endangered hill dwellers, but very little is done. The situation is the same this year ahead of the monsoon.
