Cork Martial Arts Promotions (CMAP) Awards Ceremony 2015/16. 6 Feb. CMAP Awards Ceremony: This event honours the achievements of County Cork’s Martial Artists; 14 Cork Champions receive 14 awards, and 14 honoured guests make presentations.
Leonard Coughlan from Kinsale, the founder of CMAP runs an academy of Tae Kwon Do Schools, in Bandon and Mahon. He created CMAP because he saw a need to celebrate the achievements of our Cork Martial Artists. Leonard has seen first-hand how involvement in these sports disciplines has shaped lives for the better, and how one success story can inspire another, or how one coach can have a positive effect on so many lives.
The evening has always been a great success with more clubs and varying disciplines coming together each year, to see the video compilations and award speeches. The evening traditionally opens with a wine reception, and as the final countdown, to the presentations, begins, the canapés are served in the beautifully designed room, candelabras sparking on each table. This is a moving and inspirational community event, and has many memorable moments every year. The event is based on the CMAP motto "Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.”

While remaining current with the latest instructional strategies and technologies, Liam can still reach a struggling student with simple instincts and empathy, coupled with complete professionalism, while also being able to accelerate and challenge his brightest students, because of professional development experiences and innovations he has pursued and mastered.”
•“Karate is my life I started in 69, and got to black belt and now I’m 7th Dan JKA one of the highest grades achievable outside Japan. 7th Dan is the highest available outside of Japan, in the rest of the world, there are some 8 Dans in Japan, but I’ve reached the top of my sport.” Recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award Noel Casey.
•“The biggest thing that John has done in 2015, is for ONAKAI; by analysing the international tournaments he has discovered that our Irish competitors are starting their careers too late, so he started the youth development squad from age 9 upwards, and so they get 5 or 6 years of serious development, so at 18 they are ready to compete with the best in the world. The reason I nominated him, and the reason he won this prestigious Coach of the Year award, is that he is not just doing this for his club, and his competitors, he is doing it for the whole country, and giving his time all over Ireland.” Liam Og Griffin.
•“I have seen the work of the hall of fame people in the past, and been so impressed, to be part of that group, and recognised as such, is a huge honour.” Seamus Cogan Hall of Fame Inductee.
