The Lord Mayor of Cork Cllr Mary Shields has officially opened Glow A Cork Christmas Celebration. The festival has something for everyone from a 30m Ferris Wheel with panoramic views over Cork City, to a vintage carousel, a range of food and crafts markets, and live entertainment. The highlight of the event is the transformation of Bishop Lucey Park into a magical Victorian themed life-size pop-up book of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’. The park has been decked out with seasonal decorations and lights showcasing stunning scenes and live characters from the story. Guests will be met by a host of colourful characters including Melody Patience (the Choir Mistress), Jimmy Sweeper (The Chimney Sweep), and Hugo & Hetty Gossip. The park, which is free to visit, opens from 4pm-8pm every Friday to Sunday for the duration of the festival, which runs until 21st December. Presented by Cork City Council, Glow, A Cork Christmas Celebration is expected to draw 150,000 people into Cork City centre over the next month. For further information, see www.glowcork.ie
